Canada's Verenex strikes oil in Libya
TRIPOLI |
TRIPOLI Feb 6 (Reuters) - Canadian energy firm Verenex has struck oil in its first attempt at exploration in Libya, Libya's National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Tuesday.
The find was in Contract Area 47, well A1/047/2 in the Ghadames Basin, an NOC statement said.
Crude oil flowed at an average rate of 5,000 barrels per day (bpd) through a 3/4 inch choke from a formation at a depth of 9,980 feet, the statement. Verenex won the permit to explore the area at an international oil exploration bid round in 2005.
