Tsunami warning issued after Pacific Ocean earthquake

TOKYO, April 2 (Reuters) - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said it issued a tsunami warning for the region after a powerful 8.1 magnitude earthquake hit in the Pacific Ocean on Monday.

The focus of the tremor was put at near the Solomon Islands. The Center said on its Web site a tsunami warning was in effect for locations including Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. (Reporting by Tokyo bureau)
