NUERBURGRING, Germany, July 21 (Reuters) - BMW Sauber's Nick Heidfeld will fly home to Switzerland after qualifying for the European Grand Prix on Saturday to see his newborn son, the Formula One team said.

The 30-year-old German, whose son Joda was born early on Saturday, will return to the Nuerburgring on Sunday morning for the race.

Heidfeld is fifth in the championship after nine grands prix. He finished runner-up at the Nuerburgring with Williams in 2005.
