NEW YORK Oct 4 (Reuters) - Consol Energy Inc (CNX.N) said on Thursday it likely produced 14.5 million tons of coal for the third quarter, below its forecasted range of 15.8 million to 17.8 million tons.

The expected production decline was primarily from the adverse geological conditions at McElroy mine and Mine 84, as well as the continued outage at the Buchanan Mine.

The company expects fourth-quarter production to be between 16.5 million and 18.5 million tons, down from its previous forecast of 16.8 million to 18.8 million tons. (Reporting by Matt Daily, editing by Gerald E. McCormick)
