JOHANNESBURG Oct 16 (Reuters) - A strike over wages by workers at coal mines owned by South Africa's Sasol (SOLJ.J), the world's biggest maker of fuel from coal, entered its third day on Tuesday, affecting output, the company said.

"The strike is still on but we can't yet quantify the impact on output, though the volumes (produced) are lower than normal," Sasol spokesman Johann Van Rheede said.

About a third of the 7,000 workers belonging to the United People's Union of South Africa were on strike at the mines, which produce an average of 40 million tonnes of coal yearly.
