Bodies found in burning car
LONDON |
LONDON (Reuters) - The bodies of two people have been found in a burning car in a lay-by in Leicestershire, police said on Wednesday.
They were called late on Tuesday to reports of a blazing car next to the A47 at Earl Shilton, a small town a few miles southwest of Leicester.
The scene has been cordoned off and forensics officers are examining the car beneath a large blue police tent.
Detectives said it was too early to say how the fire started, but stressed they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
"We got a call from a passing motorist who saw a vehicle alight in the lay-by," Detective Superintendent Chris Thomas, of Leicestershire Constabulary, told reporters. "We found two people dead in the vehicle and quite a horrendous scene.
"We are not relating it to any other incidents. We are not actively seeking any other person, but we are keeping an open mind.
"The post mortem examinations later on today will give us a better indication of what we are dealing with."
The victims have not been formally identified. Police appealed for witnesses.
