Cycling - Italy's Alessandro Petacchi is doubtful for this month's Giro d'Italia because of breathing problems, his team's sporting director Vittorio Algeri told French sports daily L'Equipe.

"He has tried to train but could not because he still has problems breathing," the Team Milram director said.

Petacchi, suffering from bronchitis, has 24 Giro stage victories to his name. The three-week race starts on May 10.

Soccer - Newly crowned Bulgarian champions CSKA want to collect the championship trophy after the match with their bitter rivals Levski Sofia next week.

CSKA have sent a letter to Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) president Borislav Mihaylov on Thursday appealing the title ceremony take place after their last home game against Levski on May 10.

Soccer - The Italian Cup semi-final second leg between Catania and AS Roma has been moved from Wednesday to 1900 GMT on Thursday, the Italian league said in a statement.

Lazio's second leg against Inter Milan in the other semi will take place at 1900 on Wednesday as planned.

Motor racing - Red Bull will give Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari his first taste of a Formula One car at the Idiada test facility near Barcelona at the end of next week, the team said on its Web site (www.redbullracing.com).

The 18-year-old Catalan will replace the team's regular Swiss reserve Sebastien Buemi, who will be competing in the GP2 support series at the Turkish Grand Prix, for straight line aerodynamic testing.

Soccer - Christian Vieri is set to miss the rest of the season after pulling a thigh muscle when he blasted over a penalty in Fiorentina's UEFA Cup semi-final shootout defeat by Rangers on Thursday.

A club statement said he would be out for three or four weeks. Vieri, 34, is expected to leave the Florence club in the close season.

Motorcycling - Italian MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi, 35, has told reporters he wants to stay with Suzuki for another season. (Editing by Padraic Halpin)
