July 25 (Reuters) - Officials at Lehman Brothers Holding Inc LEH.N have considered selling at least part of its Neuberger Berman asset management unit, CNBC said citing sources.

If Lehman sold the entire unit the deal could fetch around $8 billion, the sources told the channel.

Lehman, the smallest of the major Wall Street investment banks, has raised about $12 billion of capital this year to strengthen its balance sheet, sold off assets, and shaken up top management.

Analysts have had conflicting views on the prospects of a sale.

On Thursday an analyst at Morgan Stanley said that a sale of Neuberger was neither likely nor practical, a day after an analyst at UBS said Lehman was likely to sell the unit.

No one at Lehman Brothers could immediately be reached for comment. (Reporting by Ajay Kamalakaran; Editing by Greg Mahlich)
