LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) - Africa-focused gold miner Randgold Resources Ltd (RRS.L) said its new discovery in Massawa in Senegal could double its reserves, against a backdrop of still-strong gold prices that could yet hit a fresh peak.

There is a "very real chance" gold prices could be above $1,000 an ounce by year-end, and hit a new peak beyond that, Randgold Chief Executive Mark Bristow said in a telephone interview with Reuters.

Rangold, which kept its full-year production estimate of 440,000 ounces this year, is still seeking acquisitions, Bristow added. (Reporting by Hsu Chuang Khoo, editing by Will Waterman)
