STRASBOURG, France Jan 14 (Reuters) - The European Union's executive arm will advise the bloc's firms to sue Russian and Ukrainian energy companies unless gas supplies are restored quickly, the European Commission's chief said on Wednesday.

"If the agreement sponsored by the EU is not honoured, the Commission will advise EU companies to take this matter to the courts," Jose Manuel Barroso told the European Parliament. (Writing by Marcin Grajewski, editing by Dale Hudson)
