FRANKFURT Jan 14 (Reuters) - German business software maker SAP (SAPG.DE) has snatched up a $300 million contract from the United Nations, daily Handelsblatt reported on Wednesday, citing UN sources.

The contract is likely to boost the proportion of contracts in the UN's annual budget going to German companies, which stood at a mere 1.5 percent in recent years, the newspaper said in an excerpt of an article provided to Reuters before publication on Thursday.

A representative of SAP was not immediately available for comment.

In 2007, German companies won $151 million in orders from the United Nations and its sub-organisations, which tender about $10 billion in orders to contractors annually, Handelsblatt said. (Reporting by Ludwig Burger; Editing by Brian Moss)
