Clinton: Iran has chance to show willing to engage
WASHINGTON Jan 27 (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday there was a clear opportunity for Iran to show that it is ready to "engage meaningfully."
Asked about U.S. President Barack Obama's comment on Monday that the United States was prepared to extend its hand to Iran if it "unclenched its fist," Clinton suggested that it might be up to the Iranians to make the first move.
"There is a clear opportunity for the Iranians, as the president expressed in his interview, to demonstrate some willingness to engage meaningfully with the international community," Clinton told reporters. "Whether or not that hand becomes less clenched is really up to them."
