TOKYO Feb 5 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co wants to price its new Insight hybrid car below $20,000 in the U.S. market, a top executive said on Thursday.

Japan's No.2 automaker gave the new gasoline-electric car a starting price of 1.89 million yen ($21,140) on Thursday in Japan, where the car goes on sale on Feb. 6. It had said in the past the selling price in overseas markets would depend on exchange rates.

"We want to sell it for below $20,000," Executive Vice President Koichi Kondo told a news conference to launch the Insight. (Reporting by Chang-Ran Kim)
