(Reuters) - Following are five key facts about Kate Winslet, who won the best actress Oscar on Sunday for her role as a German woman with a teen-age lover and a secret Nazi past in "The Reader."
-- Kate Winslet, 33, was born on October 5 1975 in Reading, England to a family of British stage actors.
-- Winslet was previously Oscar-nominated for her roles in "Little Children" (2006), "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind " (2004), "Iris" (2001), "Titanic" (1997) and "Sense and Sensibility" (1995).
-- With her fair hair and pale complexion, she is sometimes called the "English Rose".
-- Winslet said recently that the role of Hanna Schmitz in "The Reader" was the most challenging part she had ever played "even though it made me completely insane."
-- "The Reader" based on the 1995 German novel "Der Vorleser" by Bernhard Schlink, has so far grossed more than $27 million worldwide at the box office.
