STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-Sanofi off on Lantus worry, bid talk
Sanofi-Aventis (SASY.PA) shares fall 3.1 percent as dealers and analysts cite concerns raised by some scientists that its key blockbuster diabetes treatment Lantus -- a co-called insulin analogue -- might be linked to cancer risk.
The stock is also weighed down by vague talk of a possible bid by the French firm for AstraZeneca (AZN.L), which gains 1.6 percent, although analysts are sceptical.
"A deal for a $70 billion company like AstraZeneca is very unlikely in our view," says Kepler analyst Tero Weckroth.
Officials at Sanofi decline immediate comment.
