MOSCOW, July 15 (Reuters) - Russia's Evraz Group HK1q.L produced 28 percent less crude steel in the second quarter of 2009 and sold its flat-rolled products in Russia at prices 59 percent lower than a year ago, the company said on Tuesday.

Evraz reported second-quarter crude steel production of 3.40 million tonnes, compared with 4.74 million tonnes a year ago, although output was flat when compared with the first quarter of 2009.

Steel makers in Russia, the world's fourth-largest producer, have suffered from a decline in orders from the construction and automotive sectors as the global economic slowdown cuts demand.

Evraz said rolled steel production in the second quarter was 3.27 million tonnes, down 24 percent year-on-year and a 4 percent reduction from the first quarter.

Evraz sold its flat-rolled products in Russia at an average price of $414 per tonne in the second quarter, compared with $1,010 per tonne in the same period of 2008 and $413 in first-quarter 2009.

In North America, it sold flat-rolled products at an average $734 per tonne, down from $1,600 per tonne a year ago and $975 in the first quarter.
