Teacher in court over pupil "attempted murder"
LONDON |
LONDON (Reuters) - A Nottinghamshire teacher appeared in court on Monday charged with the attempted murder of one of his teenage pupils.
Peter Harvey is accused of attacking 14-year-old Jack Waterhouse at All Saints' Roman Catholic School in Mansfield earlier this month.
The 49-year-old science teacher appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for a short hearing and will remain in custody after his lawyer declined to make an application for bail, the Press Association reported.
He will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court during the last week in September.
"This is a tragic case of a man who is of impeccable character," Harvey's lawyer Rex Tedd told the court.
Waterhouse was taken to hospital with serious head injuries after an incident in a classroom. He has now been released after treatment for a bleed on the brain and a fractured skull.
