HOUSTON, July 28 (Reuters) - Skimmers worked to control a Eugene Island pipeline leak in the Gulf of Mexico while divers headed to the scene and planners studied repair options, Shell Pipeline Co (RDSa.L) said Tuesday.

The leak of 1,400 barrels of crude was discovered Saturday and the pipeline was shut down but a "small amount" is still leaking as the pipeline drains, Shell said. Officials will study alternative routes as well as repairs, a spokesman said. (Reporting by Bruce Nichols)
