LONDON Nov 26 (Reuters) - The Bank of England said on Thursday it would buy up to 1.7 billion pounds ($2.84 billion) of ultra-long gilts next Tuesday as part of its quantitative easing programme.

The central bank said it would make purchases from gilts maturing in 2036, 2038, 2042, 2046, 2049, 2055 and 2060.

The BoE plans to buy 25 billion pounds of assets, mostly gilts, between November and the end of January as part of its 200 billion pound quantitative easing policy to boost Britain's recession-hit economy.
