Shares in Infineon (IFXGn.DE) add 2.6 percent, making them the strongest performers among Frankfurt's large caps .GDAXI, after the chipmaker's chief executive strikes an optimistic tone in an interview with Handelsblatt.

CEO Peter Bauer told the newspaper that he expects the next three to four years to be positive for the semiconductor sector should no serious disruptions in the global economy take place. "Prospects for the whole semiconductor industry are improving. We expect quite a good year for Infineon despite the U.S. dollar's weakness," says DZ Bank analyst Harald Schnitzer.

"Impressive performance in Automotive and remarkable (performance) in Industrial & Multimarket are the key drivers and should enable Infineon to reach its double-digit margin targets," Schnitzer adds.
