CHICAGO Dec 9 (Reuters) - The second shift at Cargill Meat Solutions' Ottumwa, Iowa, pork plant was canceled on Wednesday because of a snowstorm, the company said.

Cargill [CARG.UL] said it will try to make up the production on Saturday at its plant in Beardstown, Illinois.

Production at other beef and pork plants have been affected by the storm, which dumped up to 12 inches (30 cm) of snow in parts of the Midwest.

Tyson Foods Inc (TSN.N) said its pork plants in Perry, Iowa, and near Columbus Junction, Iowa, were not operating on Wednesday because of the storm and production was reduced at three other pork plants and at four of its beef plants. [ID:nN09232480]
