STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-Shares stay higher as Wall Street rises

European shares stay higher as Wall Street rises in early trade, with banking shares in Europe the major gainers.

The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3 index of top shares is up 0.5 percent at 1,043.76 points in thin trading with London markets closed.

The U.S. Dow Jones industrial average .DJI, the S&P 500 .SPX and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC are all 0.2 percent higher.

Banks add the most points to the pan-European index. UBS (UBSN.VX), Banco Santander (SAN.MC), BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA) and Societe Generale (SOGN.PA) are up 0.7 to 1.9 percent.
