BRUSSELS, March 1 (Reuters) - Belgium's dominant telecom operator Belgacom (BCOM.BR) is examining branching out into electricity supply in order to diversify its activities, Belgian daily Le Soir reported on Monday.

The former state monopoly is in talks with Belgian electricity and gas supplier Lampiris to resell electricity, and could subsequently buy a stake in the group, the newspaper cited a source as saying.

Lampiris, which offers electricity generated from renewable energy sources, buys its electricity mainly from independent Belgian suppliers. It does not have its own production facilities.

Belgacom was not immediately available for comment. (Writing by Antonia van de Velde; Editing by Rupert Winchester)
