US STOCKS SNAPSHOT-Wall St adds gains after Fed decision

NEW YORK, March 16 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks added modest gains on Tuesday after the Federal Reserve held benchmark rates near zero and repeated its promise to keep them exceptionally low for an extended period, as expected.

* The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI added 17.23 points, or 0.16 percent, to 10,659.38. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX rose 5.33 points, or 0.46 percent, to 1,155.84.
