LONDON (Reuters) - Vampires and ogres dominated the British box office over the weekend, with the latest in the Twilight series setting a new opening record for the year, according to Screen International on Tuesday.

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" with Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, took 13.75 million pounds, breaking the previous 2010 record of 10.5 million, set in March by "Alice in Wonderland."

It knocked last week's chart-topper "Shrek Forever After" down into second spot, despite the green ogre taking another 4.6 million pounds.

"Predators" was new at three with the story of a group of killers themselves being hunted by aliens while "Get Him to the Greek," starring Jonah Hill and Russell Brand in a tale of sex and stardom, slipped two places to fourth.

Thriller comedy "Killers" was down at five from three with Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl.

Sixth, down two, was "Sex and the City 2," while "Heartbreaker," a romantic comedy set in France, slipped a place to seventh.

Bollywood feature "I Hate Luv Storys" was down three at eight, just above "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" down at nine from seven.

Indian film "Milenge Milenge" made its debut at 10.
