NEW YORK, July 22 (Reuters) - Chip designer Rambus Inc (RMBS.O) reported a second-quarter loss, although revenue rose with the help of agreements signed earlier this year with Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS).
The company's shares fell 3.4 percent after it reported a quarterly net loss of $12.49 million, or 11 cents a share, compared with a loss of $23.97 million, or 23 cents a share, in the same quarter a year ago.
Revenue rose 44 percent to $38.86 million, mostly in line with Wall Street expectations.
Rambus said the rise in revenue was helped by revenue from agreements signed with Samsung in the first quarter of 2010. In January, Rambus announced a settlement of an antitrust case with Samsung, and Samsung agreed to make payments.
The company's shares fell to $18.35 after closing Thursday trade at $18.99. (Reporting by Ritsuko Ando)
