Aug 9 (Reuters) - Speech recognition technology supplier Nuance Communications Inc (NUAN.O) posted a quarterly adjusted profit that beat expectations, but revenue trailed Street, hurt by a weak performance in its mobile-enterprise segment, sending shares down 7 percent.
Nuance expects fourth-quarter adjusted profit of 31 cents to 34 cents a share, on adjusted revenue of between $310 million and $330 million, it said in a conference call.
For the fourth quarter, analysts were expecting a profit of 33 cents a share on revenue of $325.4 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Nuance's third-quarter net loss narrowed to $1.5 million, or 1 cent a share, compared with a loss of $2.8 million, or 1 cent a share in the year-ago period. Excluding items, Nuance earned 30 cents a share.
Adjusted revenue rose 17 percent to $293.4 million. Organic revenue from mobile-enterprise segment fell 1 percent.
Analysts were expecting a profit of 29 cents a share, on revenue of $300.4 million.
Shares of the Burlington, Massachusetts-based company were trading down 7 percent in trading after the bell. They closed at $17.37 Monday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Sudipto Ganguly in Bangalore; Editing by Vyas Mohan)
