LONDON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - British insurer Standard Life (SL.L) said on Wednesday it would cut a net total of around 500 jobs between now and the end of next year.

A spokesman said the insurer would be phasing out around 600 jobs while at the same time creating 100 new jobs in other areas.

"We will be trying to keep compulsory redundancies to a minimum," added the spokesman.
