-- China's Ministry of Commerce said it was implementing eight measures to encourage consumption of imports and to help balance the country's large trade surplus. Measures include improving tariff structures and actively importing resources.

-- Poly Real Estate (600048.SS), one of the country's biggest developers, said property sales rose 16 percent in the first 8 months of the year. Contracted sales for August reached a record high, the paper said.
