Resume of recent races in Montreal:
2010 - Lewis Hamilton (Britain) McLaren
Hamilton took his second win in a row to go top of the championship, with Button anchoring a McLaren one-two in a highly tactical race. The main drama was created by the tyres triggering different strategies and creating plenty of overtaking. Vettel struggled with a gearbox problem.
-
2008 - Robert Kubica (Poland) BMW-Sauber
Kubica's first and to date only Formula One win, coming a year after his huge crash in Montreal. The race was BMW-Sauber's only win and also their only one-two finish. Hamilton started on pole but retired after crashing into the back of Kimi Raikkonen's stationary Ferrari in the pit lane.
-
2007 - Hamilton, McLaren
Hamilton's first grand prix win, from pole position. In a chaotic race, Ferrari's Felipe Massa and Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella were disqualified while BMW-Sauber's Robert Kubica was taken to hospital after a big crash. The safety car was deployed four times in all.
-
2006 - Fernando Alonso (Spain) Renault
Alonso's fourth win in a row and sixth in nine races stretched his lead over Ferrari's Michael Schumacher to 25 points at the halfway stage in the championship. Alonso started from pole for the fifth race in a row.
-
2005 - Kimi Raikkonen (Finland) McLaren
Raikkonen won after Alonso's only retirement of the season. Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella led for almost half the race before an hydraulics problem. Alonso led for six laps but hit the wall on the 39th of 70 laps.

CIRCUIT
The track is on the Ile de Notre Dame, a man-made island on the St Lawrence seaway that was built for the 1976 EXPO exhibition and has hosted the race since 1978.
Because the circuit is infrequently used, it can be very dusty on Friday.
The circuit puts a heavy burden on brakes and gearbox, with frequent switches from tight chicanes to long high-speed straights and up to 2,000 gearchanges required over the 70 laps.
