UPDATE 1-Cricket-New Zealand wait on Southee before naming team

MANCHESTER, England, May 22 (Reuters) - New Zealand will give teenage seamer Tim Southee another day to recover from a stomach upset after selecting an unchanged 12-man squad for Friday's second test against England at Old Trafford.
"We want to give Southee another night to see how he shapes up in the morning because he has just trained for the first time since his illness," New Zealand team spokesman John Durning told Reuters on Thursday.
Captain Daniel Vettori had earlier told a news conference off-spinner Jeetan Patel could have been included in the squad as back-up for his own left-arm spin, even if 19-year-old paceman Southee passed a test.
Durning explained that the team might still play two spinners because opening batsman Aaron Redmond bowls genuine leg-spin, but it would be a different tactic to that suggested by Vettori.
Vettori had told reporters: "There has been talk of taking two spinners into the match. (Coach) John (Bracewell) and I will have a look at the wicket and take it from there.
"I have seen (England left-arm spinner) Monty (Panesar) quoted a few times saying this is one of his favourite grounds to bowl at and Jeetan and I are similar bowlers even though one is left-handed and one is right-handed.
"But if he is coming out saying it is a good pitch to bowl at you sit up and take notice and make a decision from there. But it will be pretty much close to our lineup from Lord's."
Vettori also indicated that batsman Jesse Ryder was still doubtful for the one-day series in June while he continues his recovery from a badly cut hand. Continued...
