UPDATE 1-Cricket-N.Zealand struggling in run chase

WELLINGTON, March 16 (Reuters) - New Zealand limped to 42 for one, chasing a victory target of 438, at lunch on the fourth day of the second test against England on Sunday.

Opening batsman Jamie How was the only wicket to fall when he was caught in close by Ian Bell off Ryan Sidebottom for eight to leave the hosts in desperate trouble at 18 for one.

Matthew Bell, who survived a confident leg before appeal from Sidebottom before he had scored, was on 18 and captain Stephen Fleming 15.

Fleming was also dropped on 10 by wicketkeeper Tim Ambrose off Paul Collingwood's first ball.

Sidebottom, bowling with a howling southerly at his back, created all sorts of pressure on New Zealand's batsmen, particularly Bell who looked uncomfortable against the left-armer's swing and movement off the seam.

England were bowled out for 293 earlier in the session, with James Anderson, who twisted his left ankle playing soccer after the third day's play ended, not out on 12.

Monty Panesar was the last England wicket to fall when he was caught by Ross Taylor at second slip off Chris Martin for 10.
