May 10 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer-Portuguese champions Porto, without nine regulars, celebrated their third successive Portuguese league title with a 2-0 win at Naval in their last match on Saturday.

Argentine striker Ernesto Farias scored both goals in the space of four minutes towards the end of the first half.

Porto, who clinched the championship more than a month ago, finished with 69 points from 30 matches after the league stripped them of six points for the alleged bribery of referees in the 2003/04 season. Second-placed Sporting were 17 points behind before their last game at home to Boavista on Sunday.

Rugby-In the wake of Dick Muir's appointment as an assistant coach to the Springboks, the Kwa-Zulu Natal Rugby Union announced John Plumtree as the new head coach of the Sharks effective from June 1.

Plumtree is an assistant coach to the Sharks in the Super 14 and guided the team to the semi-finals in last year's Currie Cup competition. His previous coaching experience includes stints at Swansea and Wellington. (Editing by Rex Gowar)
