 Feb 6 (Reuters) - A combination of mining groups BHP
Billiton (BLT.L: Quote, Profile, Research) (BHP.AX: Quote, Profile, Research) and Rio Tinto (RIO.L: Quote, Profile, Research) (RIO.AX: Quote, Profile, Research) would
tower over the mining sector in terms of market capitalisation
and revenues.
 The market cap of the combined group would be more than
double that of the next ranking company.
 Below are rankings for the five major diversified mining
groups in terms of market capitalisation and revenues plus a
proforma ranking for a combination of BHP and Rio.
 Market capitalisation (in $US on Feb 5)
 **  BHP-Rio -- $353.7 bln
 1.  BHP Billiton -- $192.0 bln
 2.  Rio Tinto -- $161.7 bln
 3.  Vale (formerly CVRD) (VALE5.SA: Quote, Profile, Research)(RIO.N: Quote, Profile, Research) -- $146.1 bln
 4.  Anglo American (AAL.L: Quote, Profile, Research)(AGLJ.J: Quote, Profile, Research) -- $76.8 bln
 5.  Xstrata (XTA.L: Quote, Profile, Research) -- $75.1 bln
 Revenues (in $US for 6 months to end June)
 **  BHP-Rio -- $37.5
 1.  BHP Billiton -- $25.4 bln
 2.  Anglo American -- $19.9 bln
 3.  Vale -- $17.01 bln
 4.  Xstrata -- $14.23 bln
 5.  Rio Tinto -- $12.06 bln
