SINGAPORE, March 11 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world:

* Manchester City's Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra is returning to England on Thursday and is determined to halt his team's slide down the Premier League table.

The ousted prime minister, due to face corruption charges at Thailand's Supreme Court on Wednesday, said City needed his urgent attention after two victories in their last 12 league games have seen them slip to eighth in the standings.

"That is my commitment to Manchester City," the billionaire telecoms tycoon told foreign correspondents on Tuesday.

"I feel like they are losing too many games in the last three to four months while I am still busy. So I have to go back and tighten the bolt."

Thaksin made an emotional return to Thailand after 18 months of self-imposed exile on Feb. 28, three weeks after a new government dominated by his supporters took office.

* Getafe face an injury crisis as they attempt to hold on to their 2-1 advantage in the second leg of their UEFA Cup last 16 tie at home to Benfica on Wednesday.

Tests have confirmed that Argentine defender Daniel Cata Diaz, midfielder Manu del Moral and former Real Madrid player Esteban Granero will be out injured for several weeks.  Continued...
