AGENCY WORKERS' PAY RIGHTS PLAN SPARKS LAST-MINUTE WRANGLING
A government-brokered deal that means hundreds of thousands of agency workers would get new pay rights after working for an employer for 12 weeks were the subject of last-minute wrangling on Friday night between employer and union bodies. The government was forced to pull plans for an official announcement after the CBI employers' body and the Trade Unions Congress both registered last-minute objections.
PERSONAL DATA WORRIES INCREASE
According to Ofcom, the communications regulator, more than two-thirds of Britons are concerned about the amount of personal data held about them by companies, up 15 percent from two years ago. But fewer families than in 2005 are using controls to regulate their children's access to the internet and more people are now happy to give account details and other personal information online, the regulator found.
