Basel watchdog proposes banks set aside more capital to cover interest rate risk

June 8 (Reuters) - The Basel Committee has proposed two options to require banks to set aside more capital to cover risks from changes in interest rates.

Basel, a group of banking regulators from nearly 30 countries, set out the two options in a document for public consultation.

The options comprise a mandatory minimum capital surcharge and a capital-add on at the discretion of the bank’s supervisor.
