CANADA STOCKS-TSX slips with energy, bank stocks; gold miners up

TORONTO, May 26 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index was little changed in early trade on Friday, tracking for a 0.3 percent slip in a holiday-shortened week, as gold miners rose with precious metal at its highest since May 1 and as banks and energy stocks slipped.

The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index was down 14.02 points, or 0.09 percent, at 15,396.71 shortly after opening in slightly positive territory. (Reporting by Alastair Sharp; Editing by Chizu Nomiyama)
