Hermes hits record high on stakebuilding rumours
PARIS, May 12 (Reuters) - Shares in French luxury goods group Hermes (HRMS.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) surged to a record high on Monday as traders cited market speculation of stakebuilding in the company.
Hermes shares at one stage rose by as much as 12.9 percent to an intraday high of 112.70 euros -- a record level for the stock.
The shares were up 10.2 percent at 110.03 euros by 0800 GMT, giving Hermes a market capitalisation of around 11.7 billion euros ($18.09 billion).
"It's the bid rumours that have come back," said a Paris-based fund manager.
Agilis Gestion fund manager Arnaud Scarpaci also said he had heard rumours of investors building up a stake in Hermes.
Officials at Hermes could not be immediately reached for comment.
