LONDON (Reuters) - A memorial service was held on Saturday for Jimmy Mizen, a teenager who died in an unprovoked attack at a London baker's shop.

Mizen died in the arms of his older brother after he was slashed in the throat in The Three Cooks in Lee, southeast London, last Saturday, a day after his 16th birthday.

Arriving at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church for the service which was attended by more than 500 people, Mizen's father Barry, 56, pleaded for an end to the violence that has seen 13 teenagers killed in London this year.

"It doesn't have to be like this," Barry Mizen told BBC television. "People are saying something must be done.

"I just wonder how futile it is with more and more legislation and laws. Perhaps we all need to look to ourselves and look to the values we would like and our responses to situations in our life.

On Thursday, 19-year-old Jake Fahri, also from Lee, appeared at Sutton Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey Central Criminal Court on August 21 after being charged with Mizen's murder.
