Briefs 5-Udinese to play in UEFA Cup after winning appeal

May 15 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - Udinese will play in next season's UEFA Cup after winning their appeal against a decision by the Italian Football Federation not to grant them a European licence, the club said in a statement.

Udinese are seventh in Serie A but will take the place of the Italian Cup winners because Champions-League bound AS Roma and Inter Milan meet in the final on May 24.

Soccer - St Petersburg governor Valentina Matvienko praised Rangers fans for their sporting behaviour in Wednesday's UEFA Cup final against Zenit.

Matvienko said Zenit fans should learn a few things from the Rangers followers on how to support their team.

"Apart from a few, most of them behaved very well despite the fact their team had lost," she told reporters in St Petersburg as the city welcomed back the victorious Zenit team.

Russian champions Zenit beat Rangers 2-0 in Manchester to lift their first European trophy.   Continued...
