GLASGOW, May 17 (Reuters) - Sevilla, the first side since Real Madrid in 1986 to notch up back-to-back victories in the UEFA Cup, may well be laying the foundations to challenge for success in the Champions League.
Their penalty shoot-out victory over fellow Primera Liga side Espanyol in a pulsating game at Hampden Park also indicated that the Andalucians are now the most attractive footballing outfit in Spain.
With their captivating brand of high intensity attacking football, Sevilla have been more appealing than Real and Barcelona this season and with victory in the UEFA Cup they remain on course for an historic treble.
They have already secured their place in the final of the King's Cup and despite their European distractions they are just two points behind Real and Barca in the league.
Spain have now won a record 29 European club competitions -- something England can equal next week if Liverpool win the Champions League final -- and Sevilla are revelling in the glory of their achievement.
"We have a right to say that this is the greatest moment in the history of the club," an elated club president Jose Maria del Nido said after his side's triumph in Glasgow.
