UPDATE 1-RadiSys Q4 earns beat Street; gives weak Q1 outlook
(Recasts; adds details)
Feb 5 (Reuters) - Embedded computer systems maker RadiSys Corp (RSYS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) reported better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by strong demand in its wireless business, but forecast weak first-quarter results.
RadiSys said it expects first-quarter earnings to be between a loss of 4 cents a share and earnings of 2 cents a share on revenue of $75 million to $83 million.
Analysts are currently expecting the company to earn 5 cents a share, before items, on revenue of $88.4 million, for the first quarter.
The company said fourth-quarter profit, excluding acquisition-related expenses and stock-based compensation expense, was $4.5 million, or 17 cents a share. Analysts expected the company to earn 13 cents a share, excluding items, according to Reuters Estimates.
Revenue for the quarter increased 63 percent to $99.2 million, and beat analysts' average estimate of $95.8 million.
Strong performance of the wireless business combined with a sequential increase in the company's commercial business helped in part to boost quarterly revenue, Chief Executive Scott Grout said in a statement.
Shares of the company closed at $12.86 Tuesday on the Nasdaq. (Reporting by Sweta Singh; Editing by Pratish Narayanan)
