MADRID, July 17 (Reuters) - Brazilian left back Maxwell has completed his move from Inter Milan to Barcelona, signing a four-year contract with an option for a further year, the Spanish club said on Friday.

Maxwell, who cost the Primera Liga and European champions 4.5 million euros ($6.35 million) rising to a possible 5 million, passed a medical and has a buyout clause worth 50 million euros, Barca said on their website (www.fcbarcelona.cat).

The 27-year-old is the club's first signing of the off-season and has been brought in to replace compatriot Silvinho. The length of his contract depends on how many matches he plays in his fourth season, Barca said.
