Sept 3 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world.

Golf - World number three Vijay Singh will join the other top four active players in the field for November's $5 million HSBC Champions in Shanghai, organisers said on Wednesday.

The Fijian three-times major winner will tee up at the Sheshan International Golf Club from Nov. 6-9 alongside defending champion Phil Mickelson, British Open and U.S. PGA champion Padraic Harrington, Henrik Stenson and Sergio Garcia.

"The strength and depth of this field certainly makes the HSBC Champions one of the strongest tournaments outside the majors," the 45-year-old, who has won three events in five weeks on the U.S. PGA Tour, said in a media release.

NFL - The New Orleans Saints will play their regular-season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their home Louisiana Superdome as planned, the team announced on its website on Tuesday.

The Saints evacuated New Orleans this week due to Hurricane Gustav in order to practise safely in Indianapolis.

"We have been assured by Superdome officials that the stadium is ready to host our fans and our team for a sold out game this Sunday," New Orleans owner Tom Benson told reporters.

Baseball - The Tampa Bay Rays activated closer Troy Percival from the disabled list on Tuesday, the team said on its website.

Percival had been sidelined since leaving an Aug. 14 game against the Oakland Athletics with a right knee sprain. (Editing by John O'Brien)
