RECENT FORM

* After winning four matches in a row late last year, Chile were thrashed 4-0 by Brazil in March, then held at home by Costa Rica and away by an experimental Argentine side. They also lost away to Costa Rica earlier this month.

COACH

* Uruguayan-born Nelson Acosta led Chile to the 1998 World Cup and resigned in early 2001. He then had a brief spell in charge of Bolivia, returning for a second stint with Chile in April 2005.

LEADING PLAYER

* Playmaker Matias Fernandez, 21, is regarded as one of the most precocious talents the country has produced since Ivan Zamorano. His vision, quick-thinking and incisive passing make him a number 10 in the classic South American style. Raised at Colo Colo, he joined Villareal in Spain at the start of this year.
