* After winning four matches in a row late last year, Chile were thrashed 4-0 by Brazil in March, then held at home by Costa Rica and away by an experimental Argentine side. They also lost away to Costa Rica earlier this month.
COACH
* Uruguayan-born Nelson Acosta led Chile to the 1998 World Cup and resigned in early 2001. He then had a brief spell in charge of Bolivia, returning for a second stint with Chile in April 2005.
