Shastri named India team manager
MUMBAI, India (Reuters) - Former India all-rounder Ravi Shastri has agreed to be the national team's cricket manager for next month's tour of Bangladesh, a senior board official said on Saturday.
Shastri was offered the role at the meeting convened on Friday to look into the team's first-round World Cup exit. India's Australian coach Greg Chappell resigned on Wednesday.
Shastri, 44, will take on the role on an interim basis.
"This will give the board time to decide on Chappell's successor," the official said. "Board president Sharad Pawar has authorised the board to look for a bowling coach and fielding coach."
Shastri played 80 tests and 150 one-day internationals between 1981 and 1992 and is currently a commentator with a leading sports broadcaster.
