Bank's King before Treasury Committee
LONDON (Reuters) - Following are highlights of comments from Bank of England Governor Mervyn King and other policymakers at a Treasury Select Committee hearing on banking reform.
KING ON PRESERVING FINANCIAL STABILITY
"There are very few tools to deal with excessive greed or hubris."
He said people needed to be given the right incentives to handle risk appropriately.
KING ON LEAK OF NORTHERN ROCK DIFFICULTIES
"I'm absolutely convinced that no leak emanated from the Bank of England. I have no idea where the leak came from."
King said he was not able to carry out leak investigations into any other authority.
Asked how he could be so sure, if he did not have an enquiry, that the leaks about Northern Rock did not come from the Bank of England.
"I know those individuals. I know they didn't leak it." Continued...
