UPDATE 1-British Polythene sees FY closer to top end of mkt view
* Sees '09 "much better" than '08 * Says overall trading still tough * FY volumes to be lower than last year (Adds details)
Nov 16 (Reuters) - Packaging firm British Polythene Industries Plc (BRPI.L) said on Monday it expects a "much better" 2009, as its full-year results were closer to the top end of current market estimates.
The company said its UK business continued to benefit from the weakness of sterling against the euro.
Analysts on average were expecting a pretax profit of 11.6 million pounds ($19.38 million) on revenue of 389.4 million pounds for the year ending Dec. 31, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
However, the company said it did not expect demand from certain customers to rise, adding that overall trading remained tough.
British Polythene said 2009 volumes would be lower than last year, but it had managed to narrow the losses in certain UK sites, which produce packaging for the construction and industrial sectors.
The company also said its net borrowings remained at similar levels to June.
British Polythene shares closed at 250 pence on Friday on the London Stock Exchange. ($1=.5986 Pound) (Reporting by Tresa Sherin Morera in Bangalore; Editing by Anil D'Silva)
