July 8 (Reuters) - Snowboarding-gear retailer Zumiez Inc (ZUMZ.O) reported a lower-than-expected 19.3 percent fall in June sales at stores open for more than a year.
The retailer expects July and August results to be hurt by a delayed start to the back-to-school season, it said in a pre-recorded sales call.
Analysts on average had expected June same-store sales at the retailer to fall 20.5 percent, according to Thomson Reuters Estimates.
Net sales fell 7.9 percent to $32 million in the five weeks ended July 4.
Zumiez, which sells clothing and equipment for skaters, snowboarders and the like, saw a fall in same-store sales in all its departments.
Shares of the company closed at $7.38 Wednesday on Nasdaq. (Reporting by Vidya Lakshmi in Bangalore; Editing by Unnikrishnan Nair)
